Single Sign-On (SSO) for Your Organization

This guide walks you through setting up Single Sign-On (SSO) for your organization on Folktale, ensuring a secure and efficient login experience.

This guide is for IT administrators and organization admins looking to enable and configure SSO for their team. It covers:

What is Single Sign-On (SSO)?

Folktale supports Single Sign-On (SSO) to simplify username and password management across your organization. With SSO, teams can securely track and control access to Folktale workspaces while reducing login friction.

How to Get Started with SSO

To enable SSO, send an email to support@folktale.io with the following details:

  1. The email address of your organization admin.
  2. The domain you want to use with SSO.

💡 You can provide multiple email addresses and domains.

Once we receive your request, we will add them to your organization. This process may take up to 3 business days.

In the meantime:

  • Your organization admin should create a Folktale account using the provided email address.
  • Once the process is complete, we will notify you.
  • Follow the steps below to configure your SSO settings.

Step One: Go to the Organization Settings Page

After signing in, click your profile in the top-right corner and select Settings. This will take you to the organization settings page.

📌  Only organization admins can access this settings page.

Step Two: Manage Admins of the Organization

In the Admins section, you can view and manage email addresses assigned as organization admins.

To add a new admin:

  1. Type the email address into the box.
  2. Click Add Admin.

To remove an admin:

  1. Find the admin in the list.
  2. Click the Delete button next to their email.

Step Three: Select Your Authentication Method

Scroll down to the Domains section and choose an authentication method for users in each domain.

Folktale supports three authentication methods:

1. Any (SSO Optional)

  • Users can sign in via email & password, Google, passkey, Google SSO, or Okta SSO.
  • Recommended for teams testing Google or Okta SSO before full implementation.

2. Google SSO

  • Requires users to sign in using their Google account.
  • Disables other sign-in methods (email & password, passkey, or Okta SSO).

3. Okta SSO

  • Requires users to sign in using Okta.
  • Use the settings in the Okta SSO section when configuring your Okta app integration.

⚠️  After setting up SSO, test your login settings to confirm users can sign in successfully. Misconfigured SSO may prevent users from accessing their accounts.
