Subtitle Editor: How to add a new language track

A guide for Admins and Insights Managers to add a new language track to a story

Overview

💡Adding multiple language subtitles is available with the Standard feature plan.

Step One: Select a story

From your Story Library, select a story that you would like to modify. Click on its thumbnail to open the Story Overview page.

Move your cursor over the video player and click the subtitle button at the bottom right. This will open the menu for managing subtitles.

Step Two: Add a new language track

If the story doesn't have any subtitles, you can add one by creating a new language track. Additionally, you can enrich existing subtitles by adding translations in multiple languages. Check our supported languages for subtitle editor to learn more.

Add a new language track

To start a new track from scratch, click on the subtitle button and select Add subtitles.

Select your preferred language and click Create track to continue.

Once done, a timeline of subtitles will open beneath the video player ready to be edited. You can scroll left and right to explore the timeline as well as zoom in and out with the - and + icons above.

Additionally, you can also add a new track by pressing the plus button below.

You can proceed to add subtitle texts and make any necessary edits. To learn more, check Subtitle Editor: How to edit subtitles.

If you have a subtitle file ready in vtt. format, you can upload it to the new subtitle track. Click on the menu button and select Upload subtitles.

Add translations to the existing subtitles

You can add translations to an existing subtitle track easily with Folktale. Click on the menu button on the existing subtitle track and select Copy to a new track.

Select your target language and click Copy track to continue.

You can proceed to translate each text and make any necessary edits. To learn more, check Subtitle Editor: How to edit subtitles.

Congratulations! Your new subtitle track has been added to the video. As the next step, you can download or upload a subtitle track, or continue to discover more about Subtitle Editor.
