1. Create your Folktale workspace
Workspace is a virtual space for everything your team will do in Folktale. Itβs where you collaborate on projects, collect and manage stories, and share reports.
If you haven't already, get started by creating your Folktale workspace. Please note that each workspace will require its own subscription. However, you can explore and experience Folktale by requesting a demo with one of our team.
To begin, sign into your Folktale account at portal.folktale.io.
If you don't have an account yet, you can create one now.
After creating your workspace, you can configure it to meet your needs:
Adding people
Folktale provides five different roles and permissions within the workspace to help you collaborate effectively with your team. Check Folktale Roles & Permission to learn more.
Once you decide the best role for each member of your team, you can start inviting them to your workspace.
Reviewing the Folktale templates
A template is the guiderails provided to people to help them build a compelling story in Folktale. Within the workspace, you can explore and utilize available templates to collect qualitative data easily.
π‘ It is important to make sure you select the most suitable template when you create a Story Invitation. We'll cover this in the next step.
Adding company branding
If you have a short video file of your program's branding (often referred to as an end tag or a stinger), you can upload this to your workspace and have it automatically added to the end of every story.
Editing Workspace settings
You can redefine the purpose of your workspace anytime by changing its name, logo, and description in workspace settings.
4. Create your first project
A Project in Folktale is a time-bound space for you to collect stories from your world. It allows you to group your story requests and contributions together in a way that will allow you to analyze and track progress.
From the Project page, create your first project to get started!
π‘ If you're not sure what your first project should be, you can create one called Folktale Testing and Training, for you and your team to practice their story collection.
A Story Invitation is sent to people inviting them to record and submit a story. It clearly defines what type of story the contributor is being invited to share, how the story will be used, and when the story must be contributed.
π‘ Since this is your first Story Invitation, it is important for you to send it to yourself too. This way, you can have firsthand experience with recording and submitting your own story.
You can use our Getting Started template to familiarize yourself and your team with Folktale.
6. Respond to your Story Invitation
Before you can contribute your story, you need to accept the invitation first. In this process, contributors can review the story invitation and decide whether they want to participate or not.
7. Record and submit your first story
Now that you have accepted the invitation, you can record and submit your first Folktale story.
If you'd like to improve the quality of the video that you're recording, here are a few tips to get you started!

9. Track the progress of your Story Invitation
You have sent a Story Invitation, responded to it, and submitted a story! Now, you can go ahead and track how your team is doing from a number of places in your workspace:
Your Invitation Overview
The Invitation Overview gives you a summary of your invitation's progress and performance after it has been created.
Your Project dashboard
If you want to see the progress and performance of your invitation at a project level, you can check the Project dashboard.
Your Story Library
All submitted stories are in the Story Library. The Story Library is completely secure and cannot be accessed by anyone outside of your organization.
Here, you can connect with your contributors by reacting to their stories with an emoji. You can also add tags that can be utilized as filters to display relevant stories.
