Getting Started with Folktale: Field Reporter Quick-start Guide

This Field Reporter guide will walk you through your journey as a Field Reporter using Folktale to capture stories.

Welcome to Folktale.

A field reporter is holding his phone to record a story of other person.

Who is this guide for?

This guide is for those of you who have just been invited as a Field Reporter within a workspace. We'll walk through the process from accepting the invitation to join a workspace to recording and submitting your stories with Folktale.

What does it mean to be a Folktale Field Reporter?

As a Field Reporter, you can capture stories of yourself or others anytime and anywhere as it happens. To do this, you can use a Story Preset created by your Insights Manager.

In other words, you can:

  • Generate multiple stories on-demand using Story Presets
  • Generate stories ad-hoc without having to wait for an invitation

Ready to dive in? Let's get started on this exciting journey!

1. What is Folktale?

Congratulations! You've been invited to capture stories using Folktale.

But what is Folktale?

Folktale is a video platform that puts storytelling tools into the hands of people and communities like you, so that your voice can be heard, understood, and amplified.

Watch the video below to find out more.

But why stories? How your story can change the world?

Learn why your story matters by watching the video below.

2. Respond to your invitation to join a workspace

To begin, you need to be a member of a workspace. Let's start by responding to your workspace invitation.

You will receive the invitation via email and be prompted to create a new account (for new users) or sign in to your account (for existing Folktale users).

3. Create your story in Folktale

As a Field Reporter, you can use a Story Preset to capture stories from yourself or others.

A Story Preset is a feature that allows you to easily capture multiple story contributions where and when you choose, using parameters defined by your Insights Manager.

You can find Story Presets that are available to you in the Preset section of your My Stories page.

Now that you have your preset, let's create a story using a Story Preset!

In addition to Story Presets, there are two other methods you can use to capture stories: Story Invitations and Community Links.

Story Invitation

A Story Invitation is a request sent by your Insights Manager asking you to contribute a specific story.

It clearly defines what type of story you are being invited to share, how the story will be used, and when the story must be contributed.

If you're capturing a story using a Story Invitation, please note that you can only submit one story per invitation.

A Community Link

A Community Link is a unique URL generated for a Story Invitation. This link allows you to view and access the story invitation to contribute a story.

Similar to a Story Invitation, you can only submit one story per invitation. However, Community Link allows you to contribute your story as a guest.

4. Record and submit your first story

Once you have created a new story, you can record and submit your first Folktale story.
