How to Collect and Add Consent from Participants in Your Folktale Story

This guide is for Contributors and Field Reporters who need to include participants in their Folktale stories while ensuring they have given proper consent.

It walks you through the process of adding participant consent, clearly communicating the purpose of your story, and linking additional consent terms when required.

๐Ÿ”‘ What permissions are needed?

  • You must be signed in to Folktale.
  • The Add Participant feature must be enabled for your story.

Step 1: Add Participant Consent to Your Story

Before recording your Folktale story, ensure you obtain informed consent from participants. They should understand:

  • The purpose of the story.
  • The intended audience and who will see it.
  • How the story will be used by your organization.

To add participant consent:

  1. Sign in to your Folktale account.
  2. Select the story where you want to include a participant.
  3. On the Create Your Story page, scroll down to find the Add Participant button.
  4. This will open the Participant Consent Form.
  5. Communicate why the story is being collected and how it will be used.
  6. If your organization has uploaded additional consent terms, these will be accessible via a URL.
  7. Enter the participantโ€™s name and location, check the consent box, and press I agree.

Step 2: Find and Add a Participant

Once you've added a participant, their name will be listed under Participants in your story.

To assign them to a shot:

  1. Go to any shot where the participant appears.
  2. Press Add or Remove Participants.
  3. Type their name and select them from the dropdown list.

Alternatively, you can add a new participant directly while reviewing each shot.
