Importing Media Files from Your Camera Roll

This guide is for Contributors and Field Reporters who want to add existing media to their Folktale stories.

It walks you through the key steps to importing media from your camera roll or computer, ensuring proper permissions, and managing file size limits.

📍   Who is this for?

  • Contributors and Field Reporters who want to enhance their stories by adding existing media from their devices.

🔑 What permissions are needed?

  • You must be signed in to Folktale.
  • Your workspace Admin or Insights Manager must enable media import for your story.

When would I need this?

When filming a Folktale story, you might want to use footage or images captured earlier on your device. The import function allows you to upload media from your phone’s camera roll or files saved on your computer.

⚠️  Important: Imported media files must be under 128MB. If a file exceeds this limit, record it directly in Folktale instead of importing it.

Step 1: Open the Photo Library

To import a media file, tap the Photo Library button at the bottom right of your screen.

Step 2: Confirm Permissions

A pop-up will ask you to confirm that you have obtained any necessary permissions to avoid violating copyright or privacy rights.

  • The imported file must be under 128MB.
  • Confirm by pressing OK.

Step 3: Select a File

Once confirmed, you’ll be directed to your camera roll or computer folders to choose a file to import.

  • If the file exceeds 128MB, a message will notify you.
  • In this case, it’s recommended to record the shot directly in Folktale instead of importing it.

💡  Not all stories will have this feature enabled. An Admin or Insights Lead can enable or disable media imports when creating a Story Invitation or Story Preset.

If you cannot find the import feature, contact your Admin or Insights Lead to adjust the settings.
