How to Troubleshoot Camera, Microphone, or Location Permissions on Your Device

This guide is for Contributors and Field Reporters who need to enable or troubleshoot camera, microphone, or location permissions when using Folktale.

It walks you through adjusting these permissions on iPhones and Android devices to ensure smooth recording.

Field Reporters and Contributors troubleshooting camera, microphone, or location access.

🔑 What permissions are needed?

  • You must be signed in to Folktale.
  • Your browser must have camera, microphone, and location access enabled.

Overview

The first time you use Folktale to record a video, you'll be prompted to allow Folktale access to your camera, microphone, and location. The prompt may look different depending on your device.

💡  Tip: If you previously denied access, follow the steps below to manually enable permissions.


For iPhones

  1. While on the record screen, press the camera icon (or ‘AA’) at the bottom left of the address bar.
  2. From the menu that appears, select Website Settings.
  3. Under ALLOW PORTAL.FOLKTALE.IO TO ACCESS, locate Camera, Microphone, and Location.
  4. Tap each option and select Allow.

📌  Your settings should now be updated, and you can retry recording.


For Android Devices

  1. While on the record screen, tap the padlock icon in the upper left of the address bar.
  2. From the menu that appears, select Permissions.
  3. Ensure that Location, Camera, Microphone, and Sound are all set to Allowed.
  4. If any of these are blocked, tap the toggle to enable them.

📌 Your permissions are now updated, and Folktale should be able to access your camera, microphone, and location.
