Modify, Disable, or Remove a Story Preset

This guide is for those who need to modify, disable, or remove a Story Preset to ensure Contributors have the correct information and permissions for submitting stories. Adjusting a preset helps maintain clarity and ensures the correct stories are being captured.
๐ What permissions are needed?
- You must be an Admin or Insights Manager in the workspace.
- You must be signed in to Folktale to access the Story Preset page.
Overview
A Story Preset can be modified, disabled, or removed as needed. You can adjust its details, temporarily hide it from Field Reporters, or delete it entirely if it is no longer needed.
Step One: Go to the Story Preset page
- Sign in to Folktale and navigate to your workspace.
- On desktop, click your workspace name in the left navigation panel.
- On mobile, tap the menu icon in the top left, then select your workspace name.
- Select the project that contains the Story Preset you want to update.
- Click Story Presets, then find the preset you want to adjust.
๐ You can also access the Story Preset page from the Create tab on your Home page.
Step Two: Modify, Disable, or Remove a Story Preset
1. Modify a Story Preset
If you need to update details:
- Click on the menu button next to the preset and select Modify this preset.
- You can update:
- Title โ Ensure it clearly reflects the purpose of the preset.
- Primary usage & audience โ Adjust the purpose and visibility of the collected stories.
- Contributor permissions โ Change settings on story sharing, response imports, and branding.
- Template & tags โ Edit or update the preset's questions and organizational tags.
- Once done, click Save preset to apply changes.
๐ If Field Reporters are offline when changes are made, updates will sync once they reconnect to the internet.
2. Disable a Story Preset
If you want to temporarily remove access:
- Click the menu button next to the preset and select Disable this preset.
- This will hide the preset from Field Reporters on their Home and My Stories pages.
- A disabled preset can be re-enabled at any time.
โ ๏ธ Disabling a preset does not delete it, but Field Reporters will no longer be able to submit stories using it.
3. Remove a Story Preset
If a preset is no longer needed:
- Click the menu button next to the preset and select Remove this preset.
- A confirmation message will appearโclick OK to proceed.
โ ๏ธ Removing a preset permanently deletes it and cannot be undone.
Finalizing Your Edits
Once your modifications are complete:
- Click Save to confirm changes.
- The preset updates will be immediately applied.
