Create a Story Preset
Create a reusable Story Preset to collect multiple story contributions with clear structure and permissions.
π Who is this for?
This guide is for Admins and Insights Leads who want to create a Story Preset to enable Field Reporters to capture multiple story contributions over time. Story Presets allow teams to gather ongoing insights without needing to send individual invitations for each submission.
π What permissions are needed?
- You must be an Admin or Insights Lead in the workspace.
- You must be signed in to Folktale to create a Story Preset.
Overview
A Story Preset enables Field Reporters to capture and submit multiple stories at their convenience. Unlike Story Invitations, which are sent to individual Contributors with a set deadline, Story Presets provide flexibility by allowing Field Reporters to submit whenever needed, until the preset is disabled.
Step One: Select a project
- Sign in to Folktale and navigate to your workspace.
- Click on Projects to see your active projects.
- Select the project where you want to create the Story Preset.
- Click Story Presets, then click Create a story preset.
Step Two: Define the story structure
- Add a title β Choose a clear and descriptive title for your preset.
- Select a template β Choose a predefined template or create a custom one by selecting Use this template.
- Customize the template (if needed) β Modify the templateβs wording and questions before saving it for future use.
- Enable or disable media imports β Choose whether Contributors can upload videos from their deviceβs camera roll.
- Select branding (optional) β Add custom branding to the preset if applicable.
π Using structured templates ensures consistency across all story contributions.
Step Three: Manage access and messaging
- Set contributor access β Choose whether Contributors can:
- View and download their stories.
- View only their submissions.
- Have no access after submission.
- Write a message for Contributors β Craft a message to explain the purpose of the Story Preset and any additional instructions.
π A clear message helps Contributors understand what is expected and encourages meaningful storytelling.
Step Four: Manage consent and visibility
- Define the purpose of collection β Explain why these stories are being collected and how they will be used.
- Set the primary usage β Select how the collected stories will be used (e.g., internal reporting, community engagement).
- Set the intended audience β Determine whether the stories will be shared internally or externally.
- Add relevant story tags β Categorize stories for easy retrieval and analysis.
- Control story visibility β Choose whether Contributors can view each otherβs stories in the Activity Feed.
π Clearly defining consent and visibility settings fosters trust and transparency with Contributors.
Step Five: Save your preset
- Review your Story Preset details.
- Click Save as preset to finalize the setup.
- Once saved, the Story Preset will appear on the Home and My Stories pages of all Field Reporters, Insights Managers, and Admins in the workspace.
π Congratulations! Your Story Preset is now live, allowing Field Reporters to contribute stories on an ongoing basis. You can monitor submissions and adjust settings as needed.
